Our research group conducts applied entomology projects that address insect pest ecology and management in tropical fruit and nut crops, as well as in native ecosystems.
We are currently engaged in the following projects:
Developing optimized pest sampling procedures for management decision making;
Biological control of invasive insect species;
Cultural management of crops to reduce pests and enhance natural enemies.
I also manage the Hawaii State-wide IPM program. Currently the program is funded through USDA-NIFA, and funds are distributed through the program to extension agents engaged in IPM extension;
2018 projects:
1. Hawaii fruit fly IPM program stakeholde trraining (Rosemary Gutierrez-Coarite)
2. Increasing outreach opportunities for Hawwaii coffe growers on coffee root-knot nematode awarebenss and management (Andrea Kawabata)
3. Hands-on IPM education: statewide program (Rosemary Gutierrez-Coarite)
Since 2020, we have moved to a different approach. We are currently substantially updating the Crop Knowledge Master, our online IPM info source. We are also contributing to the development of the MyIPM App for Hawaii crops.
The MyIPM App can be accessed at
iOS - My IPM Hawaii on the App Store (apple.com)
